Well, it isn't exactly a farm at only 5 acres or so, but
has the potentially to be a nice little homestead / farmette.
Using the navigation bar to the left you can browse through information
about our home, including (hopefully) upcoming expansion plans,
outbuilding renovation details, equipment, animals, and hopefully much
more eventually.
Unfortunately, we don't know a lot about the history of
our property. The main house has the earliest deed on record
dating to 1900. This construction for the main house was
log, though not visible today the thickness of the walls betrays the
more up to date tone set by the vinyl siding. The main house was
quite small but was expanded. Our only guess for the expansion is
1994 as that is the date of casting mark on the toilets and coincides
with some other dates and general construction techniques. The
entire house was gutted and, frankly, poorly renovated around this time.
So the electricity is modern, the plumbing is modern, but the character
of the home was largely lost.
The Summer Kitchen does have a lot of the character that
was probably present prior to 1994. It too is log construction but
with wood lap siding. The building has largely been neglected but
has some wonderful potential to eventually be restored and turned into a
guest cottage.
The Barn is not in saving condition and so will most
likely be torn down, unless I can determine a cost effective way to
replace a couple of key timbers as well as the roof.
A dog kennel for hunting dogs was present, but I have
already torn it down in preparation for the building of a henhouse.
There probably once were other coops on the property as I have found
remnants of at least one large industrial brooder. Below you can
see the property as it was just before we moved in.
